OVERNIGHT SURFACING PROJECT PLANNED FOR A830 LOCH EILT

April 7, 2021

Works set to begin on Wednesday 14 April for two nights

• Overnight road closures in place for safety, 7pm – 7am

• Amnesties will be in place at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am to allow traffic to safely pass through the work site

A section of the A830 to the west of Glenfinnan is set to benefit from an improved road surface with works set to get underway next week.

The project will see road defects addressed on the A830 east of Loch Eilt, creating a smoother and safer journey for road users.

Works are set to begin on Wednesday 14 April and will take two nights to complete. They will take place between 7pm and 7am each night with surfacing due to be completed by 7am on Friday 16 April, subject to weather conditions.

Due to the narrow road widths at this location, the A830 will be closed in both directions during working hours to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A830, vehicles will be escorted through the work site using pre-set amnesty periods arranged for 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

The A830 will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works on a temporary road surface.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect the operatives that are undertaking the works.

Commenting on the project, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project west of Glenfinnan will greatly improve the quality and safety of the carriageway for road users on this section of the A830.

“The overnight closures are necessary in order to protect operatives and road users given the narrow width of the A830 at this location. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and providing amnesty periods for traffic.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete the project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
