OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED ON A82 AT RANNOCH MOOR, SOUTH OF GLENCOE

July 4, 2022

Further night of works required at Rannoch Moor with completion expected on Wednesday 20 July 2022

Please be advised that an amended programme of works is now proposed for the road surfacing improvements underway on the A82 trunk road between Tyndrum and Glencoe Altnafeadh.

The works to re-surface two sections of carriageway began on Sunday 10 July and were due to take place over seven nights.  However, an additional night of works has been added, with works expected to be complete by 5am on Wednesday 20 July 2022.

The works will now take place as follows:

  • A82 Rannoch Moor Summit – Works will take place from Sunday 10 July to Sunday 17 July (six nights), between 7pm – 6am, with no works planned on Friday or Saturday nights. A 10mph convoy system will be in place during these works for the safety of workers and motorists.
  • A82 Rannoch Moor – Works will take place on Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July (two nights), between 8pm – 5am.

A road closure will be necessary for these works and A82 traffic between Tyndrum and Ballachulish will be diverted via the A85 and A828, adding an additional 45 minutes to journey times.

Road users are reminded of the height restrictions that apply on the A828 at Connel Bridge (4.2m and 13”9”) and A85 Achnacloich Bridge (4.2m and 14”0”).  Vehicles exceeding these heights should seek to utilise the amnesty periods that will be provided on the A82 through the works site as set out below.

Amnesty periods (when work is suspended) will be provided on the A82 at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am and waiting traffic will be escorted safely through the roadworks. Road users are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

To help keep disruption to a minimum the A82 will remain open during the daytime.  However, reduced speed limits will be in place as vehicles will be travelling over a temporary road surface.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the project and to share relevant information in advance. Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times. Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “This surfacing project at Rannoch Moor will greatly improve the quality and safety of this section of the A82 for road users.

“The overnight closures and 10mph convoy system will afford protection to our teams and motorists whilst the works are undertaken; however, we have taken steps to minimise disruption by avoiding works during the day and by removing traffic management outwith working hours.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
