OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR THE M90 BALMANNO HILL

May 4, 2022

Works start Sunday 8 May for three nights

A section of the M90 northbound near Balmanno Hill is to benefit from surfacing improvements with works set to get underway from Sunday 8 May at 7.30pm.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the northbound section of the M90 through Balmanno Hill, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled to begin on Sunday 8 May and is programmed to take place over three nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night. Works are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Wednesday 11 May, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the M90 northbound will be closed just after the Junction 8 northbound off-slip to A91. Traffic will be diverted from Junction 8 off-slip along the A91 to Gateside, A912 to Bridge of Earn and then back on the M90 at J9 on-slip

A wide load holding area will be put in place just before Junction 8 off-slip and wide loads will be permitted through site under escort.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This surfacing project on the M90 northbound at Balmanno Hill will help address any defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closure of the northbound carriageway is essential for ensuring the safety of roadworkers and motorists, however we’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and we thank road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
