OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR SIX LOCATIONS ON A83 BETWEEN KENNACRAIG AND TARBET

Works begin on Sunday 18 April for three weeks

• Overnight road closures required for safety, 8pm-5am

 

A surfacing project covering six locations on the A83 trunk road in Argyll is set to begin from Sunday night which will take up to three weeks to complete.

The programme of work will address six sections of the A83 between Kennacraig and Tarbet, creating a smoother and safer journey for road users.

The carriageway resurfacing works are programmed between Sunday 18 April and Sunday 9 May, 8pm-5am, with no work planned on Friday or Saturday nights.

To help ensure the project can take place safely at each location, an overnight road closure will be in place each night when working is taking place. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times. The work is planned to take place as follows:

  • A83 Crarae Pier – Sunday 18 April to Monday 19 April (two nights), 8pm – 5am
    Amnesty periods will be in place at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow any waiting traffic to safely convoy through the area. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in advance of these times to ensure they can be accommodated.
  • A83 north of Stronachullin – Sunday 25 April (one night), 8pm – 5am,
    Amnesty periods will be in place at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow any waiting traffic to safely convoy through the area. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in advance of these times to ensure they can be accommodated
  • A83 south of Inverneill – Monday 26 April to Thursday 29 April (four nights), 8pm – 5am. Amnesty periods will be in place at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow any waiting traffic to safely convoy through the area. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in advance of these times to ensure they can be accommodated.
  • A83 Argyll Adventure, south of Inveraray – Sunday 2 May to Tuesday 4 May (three nights), 8pm – 5am
    Amnesty periods will be in place at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow any waiting traffic to safely convoy through the area. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in advance of these times to ensure they can be accommodated.
  •  A83 north of Strone Point – Wednesday 5 May (one night), 8pm – 5am
    A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A85, and A819, adding an additional 26 miles to the journey for road users travelling between Tarbet and Inveraray. Access for local traffic will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am.
  • A83 Tarbet Tearooms – Thursday 6 May to Sunday 9 May (two nights, excluding Friday and Saturday night), 8pm – 5am
    A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A85, and A819, adding an additional 26 miles to the journey for road users travelling between Tarbet and Inveraray. Access for local traffic will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am.

Outwith working hours a 30mph speed limit will be in place at each respective resurfacing site to ensure vehicles can safely pass over the temporary road surface.

Surfacing work will also take place at the A83 Rest and Be Thankful car park from Wednesday 21 April to Friday 23 April, 7am to 7pm. There will be no impact to trunk road traffic during the project, however the carpark will remain closed to the public.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “This programme of surfacing work for the A83 will help address any defects in the road surface at six locations, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

“For safety, we need to close the road overnight at each location however we’ve taken steps to minimise disruption as much as possible by scheduling the work to avoid working on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do everything they can to limit disruption and will complete the work as quickly and safely as they can. We advise all road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information.”
