OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A86 EAST OF ABERARDER

May 27, 2022

Project to begin on Monday 30 May for five nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm to 6am (excluding Thursday 2, Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June)

A section of the A86 east of Aberarder is to benefit from an improved road surface with work set to get underway on Monday 30 May.

The improvements will see around 670 metres of the A86 resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The works expected to take place over five nights between 8pm and 6am; however, no works will take place on Thursday 2, Friday 3, or Saturday 4 June. Completion of the works is expected by 6am on Tuesday 7 June, subject to weather conditions.

Due to the narrow carriageway widths associated with the A86, and in order to ensure the safety of our roadworkers as well as motorists, the improvements will be undertaken using a full overnight road closure.  Amnesty periods will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am to allow vehicles to be escorted through the site safely under a 10mph convoy system. The A86 will be open out with working hours; however, a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A86 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential to the safety of road workers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight under a full road closure with amnesty periods, and by operating the road with a reduced speed limit during the day time until works are completed.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
