OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A82 BETWEEN TARBET AND ARDLUI

May 21, 2021

Project to begin from Sunday 23 May for two nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 9pm and 5am

A section of the A82 between Tarbet and Ardlui is set to benefit from an improved road surface with work set to get underway on Sunday.

The project will see over 200 metres of the A82 next to Loch Lomond resurfaced, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

The overnight project is programmed to begin on Sunday 23 May and is expected to take two nights to complete. The improvements will take place between 9pm and 5am each night with the project scheduled to be completed by 5am on Tuesday 25 May.

Due to the narrow road widths present at this location on the A82, work will be carried out using a full road closure between Tarbet and Crianlarich to ensure the safety of operatives and road users. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A83, A819 and A85 during working hours.

The A82 will remain open during the daytime to keep disruption to a minimum, however to ensure the safety of motorists a speed limit of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.  Local access for residents, businesses and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect operatives, such that they remain safe at all times.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A82 between Tarbet and Ardlui will help address any defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at these locations. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
