OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED AT TWO LOCATIONS ON A82 NORTH OF DRUMNADROCHIT

May 6, 2021

Project set to begin from Monday 10 May for eight nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, excluding Friday and Saturday nights

  • Planned amnesties at 10pm, 12am, 2am and 4am to allow safe passage of traffic

Surfacing improvements at two locations on the A82 north of Drumnadrochit are set to get underway next week.

The project will see almost one kilometre of the A82 resurfaced next to Loch Ness, which will improve ride comfort and improve safety for road users.

The overnight project is scheduled to start on Monday 10 May and will take up to eight nights to compete. The surfacing improvements will take place between 9pm and 6am with all work scheduled to be completed by Thursday 20 May. No works are programmed to take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Due to the narrow road widths throughout this location, the A82 will be closed in both directions during working hours to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. Amnesties will be provided at 10pm, 12am, 2am, and 4am to safely escort traffic through the works. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

The A82 will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works on a temporary road surface.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect the operatives that are undertaking the works.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A82 north Drumnadrochit will address any defects and greatly improve the condition of the road for motorists.

“The overnight closures are necessary to protect our workforce and motorists given the narrow road width in the area. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the re-surfacing operation overnight and by avoiding Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
