OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS FOR A83 SOUTH OF STRONACHULLIN

March 7, 2023

Night time roadworks

  • Project to begin on Sunday 19 March for four nights
  • Overnight road closure with amnesties, 7pm to 5am

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out road surface improvements on the A83, south of Inverneill, from Sunday 19 March.

The resurfacing works will take place over four nights, between 7pm and 5am. They will be completed by the morning of Thursday 23 March, dependant on weather.

Due to the narrow road widths at this location on the A83, there will be a full road closure to protect road workers and motorists. Amnesty periods will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am. Drivers are encouraged to arrive prior to these times to ensure they are accommodated within each amnesty period.

The road will be open from 5am each day to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary road surface. Access through the work site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation with all relevant stakeholders has been carried out.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This resurfacing project on the A83 will repair defects and provide a smoother, safer journey for everyone using the road.

“The night time road closures are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight to allow the road to reopen during the day, as well as providing amnesty periods through the night.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
