OVERNIGHT ROAD SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS FOR A85 NORTH OF LOCHEARNHEAD

May 9, 2023

  • Works begin Sunday 14 May for eight nights.
  • Overnight road closure with diversion, 8pm to 5am.

Road users on the A85 between the A84 junction at Lochearnhead towards Glen Ogle will benefit from a new road surface, thanks to work that BEAR Scotland is set to carry out for Transport Scotland. Work is scheduled to start on Sunday 14 May.

The eight-night, £310k project, will run from 8pm to 5am each night, except Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May. Weather permitting, it is anticipated that the work will be finished by 5am on Wednesday 24 May.

The A85 will be closed from the A84 junction at Lochearnhead to the B827 junction at Lix Toll. For drivers travelling on the A85 between Lochearnhead and Crianlarich, a signed diversion will be in place via the A84, A81, A811 and A82, lengthening the journey by 59 miles.

During periods of closure, amnesties at 9pm, 11pm, 1am and 3am will allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site. In order to ensure they can be accommodated, drivers are encouraged to arrive before amnesty periods. Local access will also be permitted outwith the immediate works area at all times. Emergency service vehicles will also be allowed to pass through the site throughout the working period.

To minimise disruption, the road will be open from 5am to 8pm each day. A 30mph speed limit will be in place as traffic will be running over a temporary road surface.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This resurfacing project on the A85 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists. For the safety of road workers and drivers, the road closure is required.  By working overnight and providing amnesty periods, we’ve taken steps to limit the project’s overall impact on road users.

““We thank road users for their patience ahead of these road improvements. Please check the Traffic Scotland website for updated information (www.traffic.gov.scot) before travelling.”
