OVERNIGHT WORKS POSTPONED TONIGHT (15.03.23):

The rescheduled works will be confirmed in due course.

The A7 and A6091 are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with a combined three nights of resurfacing works scheduled between the Wednesday 15 and Friday 17 March 2023.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, resurface a combined 600m of carriageway.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A7 will be closed 0.5km south of Parkdail on 15 March. The A6091 will then be closed at Melrose Roundabout on 16 and 17 March.

Wednesday 15 March – Road closure with a signed diversion. Traffic will be diverted off the A7 between Hawick and Canonbie via the B7201, B6357, A6088. This diversion will add approximately 6 miles and 15 minutes to affected journeys.

Thursday 16 and Friday 17 March – Road Closure with a signed diversion. Traffic will be diverted off the A6091 between Kingsknowes Roundabout and Ravenswood Roundabout via the A7, A699, A68. Local access will be maintained along the A6091 up to Tweedbank Roundabout and Borders General Hospital. This diversion will add approximately 11 miles and 18 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: The resurfacing works will ensure that motorists have safer and smoother journeys whilst travelling on the A7 and A6091.

“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works, however we have scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
