OVERNIGHT ROAD CLOSURE REQUIRED ON A92 BALFARG JUNCTION NEAR GLENROTHES

December 8, 2021

  • Road closure in place tonight, Wednesday 8 December, 7.30pm to 6.30am

Road safety improvements on the A92 near Balfarg Junction in Glenrothes are set to take place tonight, Wednesday 8 December.

The improvements continue from works carried out earlier this year and will involve teams installing pedestrian crossing studs as well as new signage. In addition, works will also be conducted on the existing vehicle activated signs in the area.

The project is scheduled to begin tonight, Wednesday at 7.30pm with all works due to be completed by 6.30am the following morning, Thursday 9 December.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the A92 will be closed between Balfarg Junction and Cadham Road during working hours. Access to the A92 from Tofthill via C49 Star Road will also be restricted. A signed diversion will be in place via Preston Hall Roundabout, A911 Queensway, B969 Western Avenue and Balfarg Junction. For Tofthill residents, a local diversion will be via Markinch to Tullis Russel Roundabout.

An overnight closure on the B969 will also be required to allow teams to install pedestrian crossing road studs and to carry out drainage improvements. The second closure is anticipated to take place later this month, subject to weather conditions. Once a date is confirmed, all relevant stakeholders will be updated.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This project will allow our teams to conduct further road safety work in the area following the project which took place earlier this year.

“Due to the nature of the works, our teams will be working in the middle of the road and it is therefore essential that we close the road overnight to ensure everyone’s safety. We’ve planned the project to take place overnight to help minimise disruption for road users.

“We would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.
