OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE M8

September 22, 2022

  • Six nights of closures on the M8 between Junction 5 and Junction 7 westbound

  • Works planned for September and October 2022

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface 1.3 kilometres of the M8 westbound main carriageway ahead of Junction 6.

To allow for resurfacing works to be carried out safely, the M8 westbound between Junction 5 and Junction 7 will close overnight between 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 28, 29, 30 September, as well as 3, 4 and 6 October.

To minimise disruption, no work will take place on weekends.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place for westbound traffic, directing motorists off the M8 at Junction 5 and along the B7066, before re-joining the M8 at Junction 7. The diversion will add approximately five minutes and 7.7 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists on this section of the M8.

“Carriageway closures are essential for the safety of workers and motorists, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
