OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE M8 UPHALL STATION TO ROMAN CAMP

September 7, 2021

  • 10 overnight road closures will commence Friday 10 September

A section of the eastbound M8 after the junction 3 on-slip is set to benefit from resurfacing improvements worth £820,000.

For the safety of workers and road users, the M8 will be closed in the eastbound direction between Junction 3a and Junction 2 from 20:30 until 06:00 for 10 nights. Work will commence Friday 10 September and run until the morning of Tuesday 21 September once traffic management has been removed.

During periods of closure, a signed diversion route will be in place for traffic travelling eastbound via the M8 Junction 3a, A779, A89 and M9 before rejoining the M8 at junction 2. The noted diversion route will add an estimated 11 minutes and 2 miles to affected journeys. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Due to the depth of construction, lane closures will remain in place out with working hours to allow adequate material cooling time. Hard-shoulder running will be utilised to ensure two lanes are always in operation.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Approximately 2.5 kilometres of the M8 is set to benefit from these resurfacing works which will significantly improve safety and drive quality for motorists.

“The road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all that we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”

Consultations have taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
