OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE M8

December 6, 2023

  • Westbound carriageway closure 14 December 2023

  • Eastbound carriageway closure 15 December 2023

Overnight resurfacing works are scheduled on the M8 motorway on the nights of Thursday 14 and Friday 15 December.

On the night of 14 December the M8 westbound carriageway will be closed between Junctions 4A and 5 from 20:30 until 06:00, to allow BEAR Scotland to resurface the bridge that carries the M8 over Blairmuckhole and Forrestdykes Road near Eastfield.

On the night of 15 December the M8 eastbound carriageway will be closed between Junctions 5 and 4A from 20:30 until 06:00, to allow 220 metres of the M8 Harthill Services eastbound off-slip to be resurfaced.

On both nights a clearly signed diversion route will be in place between Junctions 4A and 5, via Balgornie Road, the B7066 and B7057. This is expected to add approximately four minutes and 0.6 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M8.

“Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
