OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE A702 SOUTH OF BIGGAR

February 23, 2022

  • Overnight road closures until Monday 28 February 2022

Overnight road closures are being implemented on a 1.1km section of the A702 south of Biggar while essential carriageway resurfacing works are carried out.

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, commenced the works on the night of Tuesday 22 February and expects to complete the job on the morning of Tuesday 1 March. No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday night.

For the safety of road workers and motorists, the A702 will be closed between Abington Services and the A702/A721 Junction north of Biggar between 19.30 and 06.00 each night whilst these works are carried out.

A diversion route will be signposted in both directions via the A73, A70 and A721. This diversion will add approximately 19 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements, which will be removed during the daytime.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A702 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the road during these works to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
