OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE A702 AT BURNHAM

August 10, 2022

  • Works start Wednesday 24 August 2022

Three consecutive nights of resurfacing works on the A702 near Burnham, two miles south of West Linton, are set to begin on Wednesday 24 August.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will undertake the project.

Work will take place from 19:30 until 06:30 on the nights of 24, 25 and 26 August.

For the safety of workers and road users, the A702 will be closed in both directions at these times.

A signed diversion route will be in place for southbound traffic via Bush Loan Road, onto the A701 and through Penicuik to Leadburn, before turning right down to Blyth Bridge and re-joining the A702 via the A721. Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion route in reverse. This diversion will add approximately an additional 9 minutes and 3.2 miles to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of the works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 at Burnham will address and repair defects in the road surface, such as potholes or cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for the safety of road workers and motorists that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ve scheduled them overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.trafficscotland.org for up-to-date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.
