OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE A702 AT ABINGTON

October 20, 2022

  • Road closure for five nights from Monday 31 October 2022

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is planning a five-night programme of overnight resurfacing improvements on the A702 at Abington.

The works will take place between the hours of 19:30 and 06:30 over five nights beginning on Monday 31 October.

During these hours, the A702 will be fully closed at Abington, with a diversion route in place via the B7078, A70 and A721, adding an estimated 13 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.

Access to the Abington service station from the M74 will not be affected by these works.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 at Abington will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes or cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for the safety of road workers and motorists that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ve scheduled them overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.

Real time journey information is available from the Traffic Scotland website and Twitter account.
