• Road closure with diversion from 28 September to 16 October

The A7 is set to benefit from carriageway improvements, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning 15 nights of works from Monday 28 September to the morning of Tuesday 17 October.

Resurfacing works are planned on the A7 between 19:30 and 06:00 each night. No works will take place on Saturday and Sunday nights.

A road closure between Hawick and Canonbie each night, with a signed diversion via the A698, A6088, B6357 and B7201, will be in place. This diversion will add 20 minutes and 7.7 miles to affected journeys.

Local access for residents within the works area and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on the A7 and will improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however, we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
