OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON A9 SOUTH OF GARTYMORE JUNCTION

August 10, 2026

  • Overnight road closures with hourly amnesties schedule for two nights from 23 August

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out essential resurfacing improvements on the A9 South of Gartymore Junction, for two nights from Sunday 23 August 2026.

The resurfacing works on the A9 South of Gartymore Junction just south of Helmsdale, will take place between 19:00 and 06:00, from Sunday 23 August until the morning of Tuesday 25 August.

To protect road users, the A9 will be closed during working hours, with amnesties at 20:00, 21:00, 22:00, 23:00, 00:00, 02:00 and 04:00, when vehicles will be able to pass through the site. Traffic management will be removed outside of working hours to minimise disruption, with a temporary 30mph speed restriction remaining in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the works and all works are subject to weather conditions.

Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said: “The works on the A9 South of Gartymore Junction, South of Helmsdale will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

“The use of convoy traffic management during working hours is essential to ensure the safety of all road users.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage those travelling to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, X at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
