BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake resurfacing on the A7 for eight nights, starting 7 January 2026.
The works, which will see approximately 955 metres of carriageway on the A7 east and west of Broonraw Junction (2.5 miles north of Hawick) will create smoother and safer journeys for road users.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public, the A7 will be closed from 19:30 to 06:00 over this section for eight nights between Wednesday 7 and Friday 16 January 2026. Works will take place on weeknights only and will complete at 06:00 on Saturday 17 January 2026.
A signed diversion will be in place between Selkirk and Hawick via the A699, A68 and A698. Southbound road users will be directed to rejoin the A7 at Commercial Road in Hawick, with those travelling northbound rejoining the A7 in Selkirk. This diversion will add approximately 14.1 miles and an additional 22 minutes to affected journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These essential works on the A7 will improve driving conditions for all users.
“For the safety of road users and our team, the road must close during the works; however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption. We thank the public in advance for their patience.”
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
