  • The first project, A83 South of Butterbridge, begins on Thursday 1st December for 4 nights.
  • The second project, A83 West of Honeymoon Bridge, begins on Wednesday 7th December for 9 nights.
  • Overnight lane closures with convoy system will be in place for safety, 7pm to 5am for both projects.

Essential surfacing improvements are set to get underway on Thursday 1st December, with the first project starting at the A83 south of Butterbridge and taking four nights to complete. The second projects follows on from this on Wednesday 7th December at the A83 west of Honeymoon Bridge and takes nine nights to complete.

The improvements will take place between 7pm and 5am each night, with no works on Friday or Saturday nights. The works will be completed by 5am on Tuesday 20th December, weather dependant. The projects will see a total of 1,600m of resurfacing carried out on the A83 between Ardgartan and Cairndow, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, there will be lane closures with temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system during working hours. The road will be open during the day from 5am to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface. Access through the work sites for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Due to the proximity of these works to the A83 Rest and be Thankful, if weather dictates a diversion via the OMR, the works will cease to ensure no additional delays are encountered.

Consultation has been undertaken with local residents, businesses, the local authority and emergency services to make them aware of the works and the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing projects on the A83 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight works are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the projects by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
