Updated 18 August 2026: Due to poor weather, resurfacing works on the A82 South of Urquhart Castle did not take place last night and require an extra night. Works will now finish on the morning of Wednesday 26 August. Full details below in red.
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out resurfacing on the A82 south of Urquhart Castle from Sunday 16 August.
The works will be carried out between the hours of 8pm and 6am each working night and are expected to be completed by the morning of Wednesday 26 August, subject to favourable weather conditions. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday evenings.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users, the A82 will be closed during working hours. Amnesty periods will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the works area. To minimise disruption, the road will remain open outwith working hours. A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place during this period as traffic will be travelling over a temporary road surface.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.
BEAR Scotland has consulted with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing works to ensure they are aware of the traffic management arrangements and to help minimise any inconvenience.
Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said: “This resurfacing project on the A82 south of Urquhart Castle will address existing defects in the road surface and improve road markings, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users.
“Our teams will carry out these works as safely and efficiently as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience and understanding while we complete these essential improvements.”
