Updated 25 April 2025: Due to weather delays elsewhere in the programme of works, surfacing works south of Portree will now be carried out on Wednesday 30 April. Please see new date below.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be carrying out resurfacing on the A87 South of Portree on Wednesday 30 April for one night only.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, the A87 will be closed in both directions between 7pm and 5am with hourly amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site.
During the works, the north junction at the B883 will be closed and the south junction will remain open at all times.
Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours however, a reduced speed limit may remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.
Access for emergency services and bus timetables will be maintained for the full duration of the works.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “These essential resurfacing works will fix existing defects, making the road more durable and resilient against inclement weather. The upgraded road markings will also enhance visibility and improve the safety of the road.
“We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these road improvements.”
