March 21, 2025

Updated 16 April 2025: Due to poor weather forecast, works on the A87 east of Breakish will not go ahead tonight (Wednesday 16 April). Works will resume on Thursday 17 April if weather permits. Please see new dates below.

  • Works begin on Monday 14 April for four nights

  • Overnight road closure with amnesties until the morning of Thursday 24 April

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out resurfacing on the A87 on Skye, east of Breakish from Monday 14 April.

Works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 5am each night and will be completed by the morning of Thursday 24 April. Traffic management will be removed outwith these hours, however a reduced speed limit may remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

To keep roadworkers and the public safe, the A87 will be closed in both directions with amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “These essential resurfacing works will fix existing defects, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users. The upgraded road markings will also enhance visibility.

“We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these road improvements.”
