OVERNIGHT RESURFACING OF THE WESTBOUND M8 AT JUNCTION 4

October 21, 2020

  • Works commence Friday 30 October for 1 night

  • Overnight road closure in place for safety 20:30 – 06:00

An overnight carriageway closure is planned on the westbound M8 at Junction 4 East Whitburn, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to resurface almost 0.8km of hard shoulder in a £50,000 project.

To keep roadworkers and motorists safe during these works, the westbound M8 will be closed at Junction 4 from 20:30 until 06:00 on the night of 30 October 2020.

Westbound traffic on the M8 will be diverted off the motorway via the Junction 4 westbound off-slip, then back on again via the Junction 4 westbound on-slip, adding an estimated 1 minute and 0.1 miles to affected journeys. The eastbound carriageway will remain open and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the M8.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this project. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
