OVERNIGHT RESURFACING OF M8 JUNCTION 5 WESTBOUND OFF-SLIP

June 6, 2023

  • Six overnight slip road closures commence 15 June 2023

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface 0.5 kilometres of the slip road exiting the M8 westbound at Junction 5 Shotts.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, the M8 Junction 5 westbound off-slip will be closed from 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 15, 16, 19, 20, 21 and 22 June 2023.

To minimise disruption, no work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Traffic wishing to exit the M8 westbound at Junction 5 will be directed to continue to Junction 6, before returning on the M8 eastbound to exit via the Junction 5 eastbound off-slip. Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the B7057. This diversion will add approximately twelve minutes and 10.9 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M8.

“The slip road closures are essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
