BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out overnight resurfacing works at three locations on the A702 from Monday 6 July.
Works will be carried out between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night; no work will be carried out on Saturday or Sunday nights. See specific dates and locations below:
For the safety of the workforce and motorists, slip road and carriageway closures will be in place each night. A signed diversion will be in place from Maidencoates Roundabout to Melbourne Crossroads.
The diversion route for traffic wishing to travel northbound on the A702 will be signposted via A73, Symington, Hyndford Bridge, Carstairs, A70, A721 and re-joining the A702 at Melbourne Crossroads. Southbound will take the same diversion vice-versa. This will add approximately 11.7 miles and 16 minutes to affected journeys.
Please note there is a low bridge situated on the A72 at Symington. All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 trunk road will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works. We’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
