REVISED PROGRAMME OF WORKS TO BE IMPLEMENTED AS PART OF ONGOING LINING REFRESHMENTS ON THE A9 INVERNESS TO AVIEMORE

Please be advised that an amended programme of works is to be implemented with the ongoing A9 lining refreshments between Inverness and Aviemore.

Lining refresh of the A9 began on Tuesday 16 August for three weeks, with works expected to be complete by Saturday 3 September. However, the project is now expected to be complete by 6am Saturday 17 September and the traffic management requirements to complete the works have been updated.

To ensure the safety of our roadworkers as well as motorists, the revised programme of works will be as follows:

  • Monday 12 – Wednesday 14 September, 8pm – 6am (two nights)

The slip roads on the northbound carriageway between Inshes Junction and Longman Roundabout including the Raigmore Junction will be closed periodically at various times during working hours. When the slip roads are closed, signed diversion routes will be in place to guide motorists. The northbound works will look to be completed by 6am Saturday 10 September.

  • Wednesday 14 – Friday 16 September, 8pm – 6am (two nights)

For the lining refresh on the southbound carriageway between Longman Roundabout and the Inshes Junction, a closure will be required of the southbound A9 carriageway to safely work away from Longman Roundabout. The slip roads at the Raigmore Junction and Inshes Junction will be closed periodically at various times during working hours. When the slip roads are closed, signed diversion routes will be in place to guide motorists.

  • Friday 16 – Saturday 17 September, 7pm – 6am (one night)

The works will then move further down the southbound A9 carriageway. There will be lane closures and a convoy system in place, with all works anticipated to be complete by 6am Saturday 17 September.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Works start this week for three weeks

  • Overnight convoy in place for safety, 7pm to 6am

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland began carrying out essential lining improvements on the A9 between Inverness, with works starting this week.

The project will see 45km of road lining refreshed between Longman Roundabout in Inverness to the A9/A95 junction at Aviemore, creating better reflectivity at night and a safer road for motorists.

The improvements began on Tuesday 16 August and are planned to take place over three weeks, with works scheduled between 7pm and 6am each night. All works are anticipated to be complete by 6am Saturday 3 September, subject to weather conditions.

The lining refreshment will start on the single carriageway section just north of Moy and will then continue on the single carriageway until complete at the Aviemore Junction. The lining refresh will then move onto the dual carriageway section between Inverness and Moy until complete.

To protect road workers and motorists, lane closures with temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy will be in place during working hours. Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

Whilst working on the A9 dual carriageway section in Inverness, there will be a requirement to close various slip roads for safety reasons. Signed diversion routes will be in place during these times.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This lining refreshment project on the A9 between Inverness and Aviemore will help to improve the reflectivity of the existing lines and greatly improve safety for travelling motorists.

“The traffic management proposed is essential to keep roadworkers and motorists safe during the works. We have taken steps to minimise disruption by carrying out the works overnight and by removing traffic management outwith working hours.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
