Overnight lane closures on M8 between J3 at Drumshoreland and Junction 2 at Claylands

July 4, 2025

  • Works to start Sunday 13 July to Friday 23 August (six weeks)

Essential safety upgrades to the central reservation barrier on the M8 between Junction 3 at Drumshoreland and the rail bridge west of Junction 2 at Claylands are set to begin on the night of Sunday 13 July 2025.

The works will be carried out by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland and involves replacing the existing central reservation with higher specification barrier.

To allow these improvements to be carried out safely, lane closures will be in place each night, in both directions of the carriageway, from between 8:30pm and 6:00am, for six weeks.

The right-hand lane will be closed in each direction every night. Where necessary, the left-hand lane may also be closed on some nights during which time, the hard shoulder will be in operation for traffic. There will be no diversions in place and full carriageway closures are not planned.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Upgrading the central reserve barrier is vital to maintaining the safety of all road users. We’ve scheduled this work to take place overnight to minimise disruption as much as possible.

“If you are planning to travel on the M8 between Junctions 1A and 2 during these works, we recommend allowing a little extra time for your journey.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot, or on X at @trafficscotland.
