OVERNIGHT INVESTIGATION WORKS AT M8

May 9, 2023

  • Overnight westbound slip closure at Junction 5 planned for Thursday 11 May

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to carry out pavement investigation works on the M8 westbound on the night of Thursday 11 May 2023.

To allow these works to be carried out safely, the westbound onslip of the M8 will be closed overnight from 20:30 until 06:00.

During this period of closure, a signed diversion route will be in place directing traffic to the eastbound Junction 5 onslip, continuing eastwards to Junction 4A, before re-joining the M8 westbound for onward travel. A lane closure will be in place on the mainline at Junction 5 on the M8 westbound. This diversion will add approximately ten minutes and nine miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “This pavement investigation work will help us determine the extent of the work that will be required when we come back to resurface this section of the M8.

“Carriageway closures are essential for the safety of workers and road users; however, we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We will do all we can to complete the works as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
