March 15, 2022

Tuesday 15 March

ONGOING OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A85 NEAR CRIANLARICH POSTPONED TONIGHT DUE TO FORECAST INCLEMENT WEATHER

Please be advised that ongoing overnight surfacing improvements for a section of the A85 east of Benmore have been postponed tonight, Tuesday 15 March.

The project will not take place tonight due to forecast inclement weather; works are programmed to get back underway Wednesday night for two nights and will take place between 8pm and 5am. All works are now scheduled to be completed by 5am on Friday 18 March, subject to weather conditions.

Traffic management will remain the same as previously outlined, with work being carried out using a full road closure east of Crianlarich to allow the works to be undertaken safely.  Amnesty periods will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am. During these times vehicles will be safely escorted through the site using a 10mph convoy traffic management system. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

The A85 will be open outwith working hours and will remain open tonight (Tuesday 15 March), although a 30mph speed limit will be in place and road users should drive with care as they will be running on a temporary road surface.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Works to begin Monday 14 March for three nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm – 5am

A section of the A85 east of Benmore, near Crianlarich, is set to benefit from an improved road surface with work set to get underway on Monday 14 March from 8pm.

The improvements will see over 1.4km of the route resurfaced, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users and are expected to take three nights to complete. The improvements will take place between 8pm and 5am each night with all works expected to be completed by 5am on Thursday 17 March.

Due to the narrow road widths present at this location on the A85, work will be carried out using a full road closure east of Crianlarich to allow the works to be undertaken safely.

The A85 will be open outwith working hours, although a 30mph speed limit will be in place and road users should drive with care as they will be running on a temporary road surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.  Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A85 east of Benmore will help address any defects and greatly improve the condition of the carriageway for road users.

“The overnight closures are essential for roadworker and road user safety due to the narrow widths through this area of the A85.  We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and by allowing amnesty periods for traffic to pass through the site.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
