OVERNIGHT CLOSURES ON A68 FROM EARLSTON TO NATIONAL BORDER

Improvement works planned for 17-27 October and 7-18 November 2022

Trunk road operating company BEAR Scotland will undertake work to improve road markings and studs on the A68 between Earlston and the national border in an investment by Transport Scotland worth £680,000.

A total of 19 nights of improvement works are planned on this section of road, from Monday 17 October to Thursday 27 October, and from Monday 7 November to Friday 18 November, between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00 each night. No works have been planned for Saturday or Sunday nights.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the A68 will be closed at specific sections over the duration of the works detailed in the table below.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These overnight improvement works will improve safety for motorists using the A68 between Earlston and the national border.

“We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise any disruption, however we apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and encourage motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys if they do need to travel on these nights.”
