OVERNIGHT CLOSURES ON A1 BANKTON NORTHBOUND SLIP ROADS

February 22, 2023

  • Overnight roadworks to replace streetlighting set for 27 February to 02 March 2023

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is to begin its programme of overnight upgrades to the streetlighting on the northbound slip roads of the A1 northbound at Bankton, scheduled to start Monday 27 February.

The A1 Northbound on and off slip at Bankton roundabout will be closed for a period of four nights from 20:00 until 06:00, to allow for the replacement of four of the lamposts.

Diversion routes are as follows:

Northbound on slip closure: Motorists will be diverted via the A198 then onto the A1 Bankton Southbound on slip and will exit at the A1 Gladsmuir Southbound off slip. The diversion will then lead to the B6363 along to the A1 Gladsmuir Northbound on slip and finally onto the A1 Northbound for onward travel.

Northbound off slip closure: Motorists will be diverted via the A1 Northbound and exit at the A1 Dolphinstone Northbound off slip then onto the A199. The diversion will then carry onto the A1 Dolphinstone Northbound and motorists will exit at the A1 Bankton Southbound off slip and finally onto the A198 for onward travel.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times. Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Network Manager, said: “These slip road closures are essential in order for the street lighting to be upgraded to current standards. We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption on this section of the A1.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience. We ask them to plan and allow extra time for their journey if they need to travel in the area.”
