OVERNIGHT CLOSURE OF M80 FOR ESSENTIAL REPAIRS

March 24, 2022

  • Parapet repair and expansion joint replacement works Thursday 31 March 2022

The M80 will be closed in both directions between Junctions 8 and 9 near Denny on the night of Thursday 31 March, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to repair a damaged parapet next to the carriageway and replace expansion joints in a bridge carrying the motorway.

Parapet repair works are required on the southbound carriageway as a result of damage caused by a road traffic collision, while the expansion joint replacement works form part of a previously advertised ongoing project, which will also see the northbound carriageway closed on the night of 30 March.

The motorway will be closed from 20:00 until 06:00, with signed diversion routes in place in each direction from Junctions 8 and 9.

Northbound traffic will be diverted from M80 Junction 8 Bankhead onto the M876 northbound, before turning southbound at M876 Junction 3 Bowtrees and joining the M9 westbound at Junction 7 Kinnaird House, to rejoin the M80 at Junction 9 Pirnhall.

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the motorway via the M9 off-slip at Junction 9 Pirnhall, before heading southbound on the A872 and the A883 Stirling Street through Denny, joining the M80 via the M876 at Junction 1 Checkbar.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close this road during the planned works, however we’ve arranged for them to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.
