OLD MILITARY ROAD DIVERSION FOR A83 REST AND BE THANKFUL

September 30, 2025

  • A83 diversion from 6pm on Tuesday 30 September

In response to the wet weather forecast, BEAR Scotland will be diverting traffic at the Rest and Be Thankful onto the Old Military Road from 6pm today (Tuesday 30 September) as a precaution.

The forecast and hillside conditions will continue to be monitored with further updates to follow.

Use of the local diversion will maintain traffic flow along the A83 corridor and protect road users.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “The forecast heavy rain at the Rest and be Thankful will significantly increase saturation levels on the hillside. While we closely monitor the situation, we’ve decided to activate the Old Military Road local diversion route as a proactive safety measure.

“Safety remains the priority and the use of the OMR will ensure the route remains open for travellers, keeping Argyll very much open for business. Subject to the weather improving, we plan to inspect the hillside daily and this will inform a decision to return traffic to the A83.”
