Major bridge works on the M80 north of Junction 7, Haggs, are substantially complete and no further daytime traffic restrictions will be required.
The works carried out by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland to refurbish the bridge carrying the motorway over Station Road have until now required a series of weekend contraflows with traffic restricted to a single lane. The contraflow that had been scheduled for this weekend, 9-12 July, will no longer go ahead.
A reduced speed limit of 40mph remains in force while works are completed on another major project nearby to replace a motorway gantry.
Overnight carriageway closures will be required to remove temporary barriers and traffic management that has been in place for the last few months – details will be published once dates are confirmed.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “These bridge refurbishment works on the M80 have progressed well and are now substantially complete, so the final weekend contraflow that had been scheduled is no longer required.
“We appreciate that these essential works have caused significant disruption to users of the M80 over the past few months, and we’re grateful for their patience and understanding.
“The project to refurbish and re-waterproof this bridge will ensure that it continues to provide safe and reliable service for years to come, reducing the need for reactive closures of the M80 to repair defects caused by underlying bridge deck issues.”
