Night-time Surfacing Improvements Planned on the A9 South of Daviot / B851 Fort Augustus Junction

November 14, 2022

  • Project will be running from 14 to 26 November
  • Convoy with lane closures in place for safety, 7pm to 6am

Essential surfacing improvements on the A9 south of the B851 Fort Augustus Junction are now underway until Saturday 26th November.

The project will see 530m of road resurfaced on the A9 south of the B851 Fort Augustus junction (south of Daviot), creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The improvements will take place between 7pm and 6am each night, with surfacing and lining due to be completed by 6am on Saturday 26th November.

During the weekdays (6am to 7pm) and on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of November works will not take place, but due to an open deep excavation, there will be a lane closure in place with a 50mph speed restriction.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, the works will be undertaken under 10mph convoy with lane closures and temporary traffic lights during working hours (7pm to 6am). There will also be a northbound lane 2 closure installed at night during working hours, to add an extra element of safety for the road workers.

The B851 Fort Augustus Junction central crossover will be closed to A9 southbound traffic, there will be a signed diversion route in place to guide motorists northbound to the Milton of Leys junction and back down the southbound A9 to continue their journey. This closure/diversion will be in place 24 hours for the duration of the works.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The works are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
