NEW ROAD SAFETY AND FOOTWAY PROJECT ANNOUNCED FOR A9 AND A99 IN LATHERON

July 9, 2021

Works start Monday 12 July for six weeks

A new £55,000 road safety project has been announced for the A9 and A99 in Latheron with works set to get underway next week.

The project will involve teams installing a new section of footway as well as carrying out improvements to the existing bus stop in the village, greatly improving pedestrian access and safety.  In addition, works will also be undertaken to upgrade road signs and road markings at the location. The speed limit will also be reduced to 40mph through the village, further improving safety on this section of the trunk road.

The project is set to begin on Monday 12 July and is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the project, with temporary pedestrian access implemented for the period of the works to maintain a safe route through the site.

BEAR Scotland has engaged with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of the project and share information about the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “Trunk road safety remains a top priority at BEAR and this investment from Transport Scotland will create a safer access for those that use public transport in addition to improving road safety for pedestrians through Latheron.

“The traffic management required to undertake these works is essential to keep everyone safe, so we encourage all road users to follow any signs or temporary arrangements that are put in place.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible. We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
