BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out works to improve accessibility and install a new controlled pedestrian crossing in Brora, on the A9 trunk road, from Monday 5 October.
Works will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and are expected to last for approximately 12 weeks, not including the two-week festive break, with works set to be finished by January 2027.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, various phases of traffic management are required.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works. These will change location as works progress and will be removed outwith working hours. There may be short periods when traffic is stopped in both directions to allow more complex works to be carried out safely.
In addition, full overnight road closures will be required to allow the team to resurface this section of the A9 carriageway. Dates and further details will be confirmed ahead of the resurfacing works starting.
All works are dependent on the weather, therefore the programme of works is subject to change in the event of adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Local stakeholders, including the community council, have been consulted in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Recent pedestrian surveys undertaken throughout Brora have been reviewed and have confirmed that the location of the proposed crossing corresponds with the area of highest pedestrian demand. The survey also identified pedestrian movements in other parts of the village, particularly in the northern areas, and these locations will be considered as part of future assessments.

“The design has been carefully planned to ensure it serves local needs while supporting wider road safety initiatives in the area, Works have been programmed to minimise disruption as much as possible, however some delays are to be expected, especially during peak times.
