ACTIVE TRAVEL IMPROVEMENTS A830 FORT WILLIAM AREA

September 26, 2023

  • Works to begin Tuesday 3 October 2023 for six weeks
  • Temporary Traffic Lights A830 West of Corpach

The next phase of active travel and road safety improvements on the A830 at Corpach are set to get underway from Tuesday 3 October 2023.

The project will see BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, construct a new footpath between Annat Industrial Estate and the entrance to Linnhe Lochside Holidays. The works will make the area safer for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users and will complement the first phase of the project, which commenced in July, that saw the street lighting extended at the same location.

The footpath works at Corpach will start on Tuesday 3 October for six weeks until Friday 10 November. Works will take place during the day between 8am and 6pm. To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, there will be a westbound lane closure in place for the duration of the works with temporary traffic lights. It is hoped that disruption shall be kept to a minimum and traffic conditions will be monitored by our teams.

Road users wishing to access the Corran Ferry passenger service from Fort William and Nether Lochaber are requested to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time to catch their desired sailing.

Preparation works have also been completed at the A830 / B8006 Junction, Fort William, that will see BEAR Scotland widening the existing, shared-use cycle paths here later this year. The existing signal-controlled junction will also be upgraded to improve journey times in the area and improvements will be made to the road surface and road markings. Dates will be confirmed closer to the time along with traffic management restrictions.

Iain Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This next phase of works are part of our ongoing commitment to improve safety for vulnerable road users and promote active travel.

“The traffic management is essential to keep roadworkers and road users safe during this project as our teams will be working on the verges, however we will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
