UPDATE: OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A83 BETWEEN ARDGARTAN AND CAIRNDOW RESCHEDULED

December 2, 2022

  • The first project begins on Monday 5 December for four nights.
  • The second project begins on Sunday 11 December for ten nights.
  • Overnight lane closures with convoy system in place for safety, 7pm to 5am.

Please be advised that essential surfacing improvements on the A83, which were due to start on Sunday 4 December, will now get underway on Monday 5 December at Butterbridge and Sunday 11 December west of Honeymoon Bridge.

The projects, which are being carried out by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland, will see a total of 1,600m of resurfacing carried out on the A83 between Ardgarten and Cairndow, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The improvements will take place between 7pm and 5am for 14 nights, with no works on Friday or Saturday nights. The works will be completed by 5am on Wednesday 21 December, depending on weather.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, there will be lane closures with temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system in place during working hours.

The road will be open during the day from 5am to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place for safety, as traffic will be running over a temporary surface. Access through the works sites for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Due to the proximity of these works to the A83 Rest and Be Thankful, if weather dictates a diversion via the Old Military Road, the works will be halted to ensure no additional delays are encountered.
