ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS BEGIN ON M90 BALMANNO EAST & WEST BRIDGES NEAR PERTH

Project to start on Monday 18 January for four weeks

Essential maintenance improvements begin this week at two bridges located on the M90 at Balmanno Hill between Junctions 8 and 9 near Perth.

The project will involve teams removing the existing road safety barriers on the M90 central reserve and replacing them with an upgraded system, ensuring the bridges remain protected from potential vehicle collision.

This essential maintenance began today, Monday 18 January, and is programmed to take place between 7.30am and 5.30pm each day over approximately four weeks.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, single lane closures will be in place on both the northbound and southbound carriageway. The lane closures will remain in place 24/7 due to the nature of the works.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe.  Safe operating procedures and risk assessments have been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.

Commenting on the works, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative said: “This maintenance on the network will help ensure the bridges over the M90 northbound and southbound carriageways between Junction 8 and 9 remain protected, ensuring the network continues to function safely for road users.

“The traffic management is essential to keep the workforce and road users safe during this project as our teams will be working in the central reserve, however we will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
