December 18, 2025

UPDATE 23 January 2026: Daytime lane closures between Junctions 6 and 7 will be removed ahead of schedule, at 06:00 on the morning of Thursday 29 January. Click here for updated details.

  • Fast lane closures in both directions 19 January to 19 February 2026

  • Overnight southbound carriageway closure 19 January 2026

  • Expect long delays

For the safety of the public and the workforce during these works, daytime lane closures and overnight carriageway closures will be required:

  • The fast lanes on the M9 between Junctions 6 and 7 will be closed in both directions from 19 January until 19 February. This is expected to result in traffic delays of over 15 minutes during peak times.
  • The southbound carriageway of the M9 will be fully closed between Junctions 7 (Kinnaird House) and 5 (Cadgers Brae) from 20:00 until 06:00 on the night of Monday 19 January. During this overnight closure, a signed diversion route will be in place from M9 Junction 7 via the M876, A905, A88 Bellsdyke Road,  B902 Carron Road, Ronades Road and A9. This diversion will add approximately 6 miles and 17 minutes to affected journeys.
  • The northbound carriageway of the M9 will then be fully closed between Junctions 5 (Cadgers Brae) and 7 (Kinnaird House) from 20:00 until 06:00 on the nights of Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 January, and Monday 2, Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 February. During these overnight closures, a signed diversion route will be in place from M9 Junction 5 via the A9, Ronades Road, B902 Carron Road, A88 Bellsdyke Road, A905 and M876. This diversion will add approximately 6 miles and 17 minutes to affected journeys.
  • The walkway under the bridge on the north side of the canal will also be closed from 12 to 19 February.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of these traffic management arrangements.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East unit Bridges Manager, said: “This bridge on the M9 is being repaired to ensure it can continue to provide safe and reliable service.

“We appreciate that daytime lane closures will result in delays, however these are essential for safety.

“We’ll carry out works requiring full carriageway closures at night to minimise disruption.

“If you need to travel on the M9 during this period, please plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.

“We thank road users for their patience and understanding.”
