M876 OVERNIGHT RESURFACING – W/B J8 TO J2

November 18, 2020

Night-time carriageway closures commence Wednesday 25 November

A section of the westbound M876 near Larbert is set to benefit from a £390,000 Transport Scotland investment in resurfacing improvements, creating smoother journeys for motorists.

Overnight roadworks are scheduled for five nights from 19:30 to 06:00 the next morning on Wednesday 25 November, Thursday 26 November, Friday 27 November, Saturday 28 November and Sunday 29 November.

For the safety of road workers and motorists, the westbound carriageway of the M876 will be closed between Junction 8, Kinnaird Hill and Junction 2, North Broomage during these works.

A signed diversion route will be in place directing westbound traffic around the works via M9 Junction 9, Bannockburn and the M80 southbound.

Motorists wishing to re-connect with the M876 for Junction 1, Denny or Junction 2, North Broomage, will be further directed via the M80 Junction 7 Haggs and back eastbound. This is estimated to add between five and 15 minutes to journey times, depending on destination.

All traffic management will be removed during the daytime.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Commenting on the project, Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These £390,000 surfacing improvements near Larbert will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating an improved road surface for motorists.

“The safety of our employees and our supply chain remains a top priority during this essential project and all personnel will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government guidance.  Thorough risk assessments have been developed and cleansing stations will be implemented on site.

“It is essential to close the carriageway to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, however, to help minimise delays, we’ve planned the works to take place during night-time hours.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and allowing some extra time to reach their destination.”

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.  Safe operation procedures and risk assessments have been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information. Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or twitter @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
