M80 and M73 OVERNIGHT CARRIAGEWAY CLOSURES FOR SURFACING WORKS

UPDATE – Change of dates:

Following disruption caused by adverse weather, the dates of the ongoing programme of resurfacing works on the M80 have been changed. Amended dates are listed below. All other details remain the same.


  • Works taking place for twelve nights starting Monday 18 September 2023

  • Overnight carriageway closures required for safety, 8pm to 6am

 A series of overnight carriageway closures on the M80 have been underway since Monday 18 September so teams can safely carry out essential resurfacing works.

To keep roadworkers as well as road users safe, there will be a series of closures of the M80 mainline carriageway between Junctions 3 and 7, and also the M73 mainline carriageway near Junction 3. Teams will work in phases over a twelve-day period, moving on to the next section in the programme once resurfacing is completed at each location.

The closures will take place overnight between 20:00hrs and 06:00hrs, with signed diversions in place when necessary.  There will be no traffic restrictions out with these times.

Provisional dates for these closures are listed below. It should be noted that these dates are subject to change in the event of adverse weather or operational requirements:

 

  • Monday 18th September
    • M80 northbound between Junction 3 Hornshill and Junction 4 Westfield.
    • M80 northbound Junction 3 Hornshill on slip.

 

  • Wednesday 20th September
    • M73 northbound link road to the M80 at Junction 3 Mollinsburn.
    • M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on slip.

 

  • Thursday 28th, Friday 29th & Saturday 30th September
    • M80 northbound between Junction 4a Low Wood and Junction 6 Old Inns.
    • M80 northbound Junction 5 Auchenkilns on slip.

 

  • Sunday 1st October
    • M80 northbound between Junction 4a Low Wood and Junction 7 Haggs.
    • M80 northbound Junction 5 Auchenkilns on slip.
    • M80 northbound Junction 6 Old Inns on slip.
    • M80 northbound Junction 6a Castlecary on slip.

 

  • Monday 2nd October
    • M80 southbound between Junction 5 Auchenkilns and Junction 4 Westfield.
    • M80 southbound Junction 5 Auchenkilns on slip.
    • M80 southbound Junction 4a Low Wood on slip.

 

  • Tuesday 3rd October
    • M80 southbound between Junction 6 Old Inns and Junction 5 Auchenkilns.
    • M80 southbound Junction 6 Old Inns on slip.

 

  • Wednesday 4th October
    • M80 southbound between Junction 7 Haggs and Junction 6 Old Inns.
    • M80 southbound Junction 7 Haggs on slip.

 

  • Thursday 5th October
    • M80 northbound at Junction 7 Haggs (lane closure only).
    • M73 northbound link road to the M80 at Junction 3 Mollinsburn.
    • M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on slip.
    • M80 southbound Junction 3 Hornshill on slip.

Commenting on the works, Carnie Morrison, Highway Management (Scotland) Limited General Manager, said: “These essential maintenance works are being carried out overnight when traffic flows are reduced to minimise delays to motorists as much as possible.”

“The traffic management is required to ensure that both our teams as well as all road users are kept safe during the essential maintenance works, however teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.”
