M80/A8011 OVERNIGHT CARRIAGEWAY CLOSURES FOR ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS

March 8, 2022

Overnight works taking place for ten nights starting Monday 14 March

As part of the continuing structural works that are ongoing on the M80 at Junction 4a Low Wood and A8011 Glasgow Road, a series of overnight carriageway closures are set to get underway to allow essential maintenance works on the bridge decks.

The carriageway closures are required to ensure roadworkers, as well as motorists, are kept safe during the works and will allow a variety of activities to be carried out at the same time.

The works are set to take place each night from 8pm to 6am as follows:

  • Phase One – Monday 14 March to Thursday 17 March (four nights)
  • Closure of the A8011 eastbound (Cumbernauld-bound) from Back O’hill Roundabout.
  • Closure of the M80 N/B J4a off-slip spur to Cumbernauld Town Centre.

  • Phase Two – Friday 18 March to Friday 26 March (six nights, excluding weekends)
  • Closure of the A8011 westbound (Broadwood-bound) from the Condorrat Ring Road exit slip

Signed diversions will be in place during the works to allow traffic to circumnavigate the closure area.

Outwith these times, the current lane restriction will continue on the A8011 Glasgow Road.  These lane restrictions were implemented last year, as recommended by a structural assessment, and investigation works are ongoing to fully assess the condition of the overbridges to ensure that the structures are in a safe condition to be used by all traffic.

Commenting on the works, Carnie Morrison, Highway Management (Scotland) Limited General Manager, said: “These essential maintenance works are being carried out overnight when traffic flows are reduced to minimise delays to motorists as much as possible.

“These essential maintenance works will help ensure these M80/A8011 structures will be kept in a safe condition for road users.

“The traffic management is required to ensure that both our teams as well as all road users are kept safe during the essential maintenance works, however teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank all road users for their patience while these essential investigation works are carried out and encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information.”

The works are being carried out by BEAR Scotland Limited and Diack and Macaulay Ltd on behalf of Highway Management (Scotland) Limited. Works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland and North Lanarkshire Council.
