M80 8-9 FANKERTON BRIDGE EMERGENCY JOINT REPAIR

October 13, 2023

  • Overnight works commence 16 October 2023

Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland will carry out overnight emergency repair works on Monday, 16 October 2023 to a broken bridge joint on Fankerton Bridge, which carries the M80 over the B818 at Stoneywood in Denny between junctions 8 and 9.

For the safety of workers and road users, the M80 southbound will be closed between junctions 8-9, between 21:00 and 05:00 overnight on Monday 16 October.

A diversion route will be signposted via the A872 and A803 to Junction 7 Haggs, adding an estimated 1.3 miles and seven minutes to affected journeys.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s Southeast Unit Bridges Manager, said: “For safety it’s going to be necessary to close the M80 in one direction while we carry out maintenance repair work on this overbridge.

“We’ve scheduled this work at night in order to minimise disruption, however if you do need to travel at these times please plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for your journey.

“We’re grateful to road users for their patience and understanding.”

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

BEAR Scotland is leading this project as part of its responsibility for the Southeast Trunk Road Network on behalf of Transport Scotland.
