M8 JCT 2-3 WESTBOUND HARD SHOULDER RESURFACING

Night-time road closure planned for 20 October

An overnight closures is planned on the M8 between junction 2 and 3, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, to resurface almost 1.8km of hard shoulder, in a £130,000 project.

To keep roadworkers and motorists safe during these works, the westbound M8 will be closed between Junctions 2 and 3 on the night of 20 October between 20:30 and 06:00.

A diversion route for westbound traffic will be signposted from M8 Junction 2 to M8 Junction 3 via the A89. This diversion will add an estimated 9 minutes and 1.6 miles to affected journeys. The eastbound carriageway will remain open.

Traffic management will be removed during the day, outwith working hours. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address defects on this section of the hard shoulder of the M8, Scotland’s busiest motorway. The works are being carried out overnight to minimise disruption on this key route.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this overnight project. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be practiced on site to protect teams and ensure they remain safe.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and all relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
