LAYBY IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A9 BETWEEN CALVINE AND DRUMOCHTER

October 6, 2025

Update 8 October 2025: Works on the A9 Layby 60 scheme, due to begin tomorrow (9 October) are cancelled due to continued weather delays on the A86. A new date for both A9 Layby 60 and Layby 66 is yet to be confirmed.

  • Works begin 9 October for three nights
  • Convoy with temporary traffic lights in place

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out essential resurfacing and road marking improvements to two laybys on the A9 between Calvine and Drumochter. This will be done over three nights between Thursday 9 October and Monday 20 October.

  • The A9 layby 60 northbound near Glen Garry will have temporary traffic lights in operation between 7pm and 6am on Wednesday 8th October, and Monday 20th October.
  • The A9 layby 66 northbound at Drumochter duals will have lane closures in place with a 10mph convoy between 7pm and 6am on Thursday 9th October, and Monday 20th October.

Traffic management measures will be removed outwith working hours, however, speed restrictions of 30mph will remain in place during the day as traffic will be running on a temporary surface with no road markings.

Access through the works sites for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These layby improvements on the A9 will fix existing defects. Our teams are committed to executing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience.

“To minimise delays, we recommend that motorists plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”
