INVESTIGATION WORKS ON THE A720 EASTBOUND

April 22, 2022

  • Overnight lane and slip road closures 27-29 April

A series of overnight lane and slip road closures will be in place on sections of the eastbound A720 Edinburgh City Bypass from Wednesday 27 April to Friday 29 April, to allow for investigation works in advance of future resurfacing.

The investigation works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s trunk road operating company for South East Scotland.

For the safety of road workers and motorists during these works, the following traffic management will be in place between 20:30 and 06:00 each night:

  • On the night of 27 April, lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place on the A720 eastbound between Millerhill and Old Craighall.
  • On the nights of 28 and 29 April, lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place on the A720 eastbound at Lothianburn, and the eastbound slip road onto the A720 at Lothianburn will be closed. A diversion will be signposted via the A720 westbound to Dreghorn, where traffic will re-join the A720 eastbound. This will add an estimated three minutes to affected journeys.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These investigation works on the A720 are essential to the design and planning of future resurfacing improvements.

“The traffic management will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, however, to help minimise delays we’ve planned the works to take place during night-time hours.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.trafficscotland.org for up-to-date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.
